John Guthrie, Pastor
Pastor John has served churches in Los Alamos, NM, Utah, and Colorado. He received his seminary training at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, graduating in 2006.
Pastor John discerned a call to pastoral ministry after a career in physics, having received the Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1989. He served two postdoctoral appointments and then taught physics at the University of Central Oklahoma. “People sometimes ask how it happened that I made such an unusual and striking change of vocation,” Pastor John said. “The first and most relevant answer is that the Holy Spirit did that.”
John’s strengths and passions in ministry center around equipping evangelists, building disciples, leading Bible studies, developing generous givers, and strengthening the local church.
John has been married to Nancy Guthrie for thirty-seven years. They have two biological and two adopted children, all grown and scattered across the country. They have one grandchild. Nancy Guthrie is the executive director of a small non-profit organization in Santa Fe.
